Alan Daniel Maman, born October 25, 1977, works as The Alchemist. Raised in Beverly Hills, California, he formed the duo the Whooliganz at 14 with Scott Caan, and after their album was shelved by Tommy Boy he turned to production under the mentorship of DJ Muggs. He became the main producer for Dilated Peoples, then moved to New York and produced "The Realest" for Mobb Deep in 1999, the record that established his sound. Since then he has built the defining sample-based catalog of modern underground rap, producing full albums for Action Bronson, Curren$y, Boldy James, Freddie Gibbs, Armand Hammer, Larry June and Earl Sweatshirt. Alfredo with Gibbs was nominated for Best Rap Album, and he has projects announced with Erykah Badu, Yasiin Bey and Big Sean.
