Jayceon Terrell Taylor, born November 29, 1979, records as The Game. Born in Compton, California, to parents who were both Crips, he grew up in a Crip neighborhood but joined the Cedar Block Piru Bloods through his brother, and spent six years in foster care. He studied classic rap albums while recovering from being shot five times in 2001 and built a rap career from that research. After the independent Untold Story, Dr. Dre signed him to Aftermath, and The Documentary debuted at number one in 2005, went double platinum and earned two Grammy nominations for "Hate It or Love It" with 50 Cent. Doctor's Advocate also topped the chart. He is widely credited with returning West Coast rap to the mainstream in the 2000s.
