Joseph Olaitan Adenuga Jr., born September 19, 1982, records as Skepta. Born to Nigerian parents of Yoruba and Igbo background and raised in Tottenham and Winchmore Hill in north London, he started as a DJ in the Meridian Crew before Wiley pushed him toward MCing. He joined Roll Deep briefly with his younger brother Jme, and in 2005 the two founded Boy Better Know. His clash with Devilman on Lord of the Mics 2 is one of the most cited moments in grime history. He released Greatest Hits, Microphone Champion and Doin' It Again independently, then Konnichiwa in 2016, which carried "That's Not Me" and "Shutdown" and won the Mercury Prize. He produced and featured on A$AP Rocky's "Praise the Lord (Da Shine)," the highest-charting single of both careers.
