Born and raised in Compton, California, he started rapping at eight and freestyled for Kendrick Lamar at twelve, then began making beats at 16. His mixtapes Feed Tha Streets and Feed Tha Streets II drew praise from Meek Mill, Nipsey Hussle and Mustard, and "Die Young," written as a tribute to XXXTentacion, Lil Snupe and Speaker Knockerz, became his first Hot 100 entry. He won a Grammy for his verse on Nipsey Hussle's "Racks in the Middle" and charted with Mustard's "Ballin'." His debut album Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial debuted at number one in 2019 and spent four weeks there, and its single "The Box" topped the Hot 100 for eleven straight weeks and went diamond.
