Jorja Alice Smith, born June 11, 1997, is an English singer and songwriter. Raised in Walsall in the West Midlands by a Jamaican father who sang in the neo soul group 2nd Naicha and an English mother who designs jewellery, she began piano at eight, learned oboe on a music scholarship and studied classical singing. A friend uploaded her cover of Labrinth's "Earthquake" to YouTube in 2012, and she was scouted at 15. She moved to London at 18 and worked as a barista while writing. Her debut single "Blue Lights," built on a Dizzee Rascal sample, drew 400,000 SoundCloud plays in a month, and Drake named her second single his favorite track of the moment. Lost & Found reached number three in the UK in 2018, and she won the Brit Critics' Choice Award and Best British Female Artist.
