Hieroglyphics is an underground hip-hop collective based in Oakland, California, formed in the early 1990s around Del the Funky Homosapien. The lineup includes Del, Casual, Pep Love, all four members of Souls of Mischief in Phesto, A-Plus, Opio and Tajai, plus DJ Toure and producer and manager Domino. They built their audience without major label backing, using their own website, mail-order store and later podcasts, and their three-eyed logo, drawn by Del from the Mayan numeral for eight, became one of the most recognizable symbols in independent rap. As a collective they released 3rd Eye Vision in 1998, Full Circle in 2003 and The Kitchen in 2013, alongside compilations and live records, while every member has kept a parallel solo catalog running.
