DON TOLIVER
Caleb Zackary Toliver, known professionally as Don Toliver, is an American rapper, singer, and songwriter from the Alief neighborhood of Houston, Texas. His music draws on the legacy of Houston’s rap scene—from the Swishahouse era to Travis Scott’s genre-bending approach—while carving a lane that is entirely his own. With five studio albums, multiple platinum certifications, and a career arc that has steadily climbed from viral TikTok breakouts to a No. 1 debut on the Billboard 200, Toliver’s trajectory represents one of the most consistent ascents in contemporary rap. EARLY LIFE AND MUSICAL ROOTS
Don Toliver was born on June 12, 1994, and raised in the Alief neighborhood on Houston’s southwest side. Music was embedded in his upbringing. His father was a singer and rapper affiliated with Swishahouse, the independent Houston label that helped define the city’s chopped-and-screwed era in the early 2000s. Growing up, Toliver absorbed the sounds that defined Houston rap—DJ Screw’s slowed-down mixes, the melodic sensibilities of artists like Teddy Pendergrass and Sade, and the raw street narratives of the city’s hip-hop scene. Toliver began recording music in high school, initially gaining regional traction in Houston’s underground. His earliest releases came through a collaborative project with Yungjosh93, starting with Space Age Pimping 2 in 2015 and the mixtape Playa Familia in 2017. That same year, he released solo singles “I Gotta” and “Diva,” which attracted attention from labels and established his voice as something distinct within Houston’s crowded landscape of emerging talent.
THE CACTUS JACK BREAKTHROUGH (2018–2019)
In March 2018, Toliver signed to Atlantic Records and Chedda Da Connect’s We Run It Entertainment, in conjunction with Artist Partner Group. He released singles “Make Sumn” and “Checks” early that year, each accompanied by music videos, followed by “Holdin’ Steel” featuring Dice Soho in July. The turning point came in August 2018. On August 2, Toliver released his major-label debut mixtape, Donny Womack—named after his alter ego, inspired by the late R&B icon Bobby Womack. The very next day, Travis Scott dropped his landmark third album, Astroworld, and Toliver was featured prominently on the track “Can’t Say.” The exposure was immediate. Within a week, Toliver signed to Scott’s Cactus Jack Records, becoming one of the imprint’s cornerstone artists alongside Sheck Wes and Chase B. Throughout 2019, Toliver released a steady stream of singles under the Cactus Jack umbrella, including “Back Up” featuring Wiz Khalifa, “Best You Had,” “Can’t Feel My Legs,” and “No Idea.” The latter would prove transformative. “No Idea” went viral on TikTok in late 2019, with over eight million videos created using the song and more than six billion plays on the platform. The success propelled Toliver from Cactus Jack affiliate to a nationally recognized name. He closed the year with a featured appearance on the Cactus Jack compilation album JACKBOYS, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in December 2019.
HEAVEN OR HELL (2020)
Toliver’s debut studio album, Heaven or Hell, arrived on March 13, 2020, through Cactus Jack, Atlantic Records, and We Run It Entertainment. The project featured guest appearances from Travis Scott, Kaash Paige, Quavo, Offset, and Sheck Wes, and immediately established Toliver’s sonic identity: hazy, psychedelic atmospheres layered over trap percussion, with vocals that blur the line between rapping and singing. The album debuted at No. 7 on the Billboard 200, driven largely by the continued momentum of “No Idea” and the new single “After Party,” which also went viral on TikTok. Both tracks earned triple platinum certifications from the RIAA, making them Toliver’s biggest commercial singles to date. The album was met with favorable critical reception and confirmed that the TikTok-driven interest in Toliver was backed by genuine artistic substance. Later in 2020, Toliver expanded his profile through high-profile features. He appeared on Eminem’s Music to Be Murdered By on the track “No Regrets,” and featured alongside Gunna and Nav on Internet Money’s “Lemonade,” which peaked at No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100—his highest-charting song as of that time.
LIFE OF A DON (2021)
Toliver’s second studio album, Life of a Don, was released on October 8, 2021. The project represented a creative leap, with more polished production and a wider sonic palette that leaned further into R&B, funk, and psychedelic textures. It debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200, marking a significant commercial jump from his debut and establishing him as a consistent chart presence. The album cycle also saw Toliver featured alongside Kid Cudi on Kanye West’s “Moon,” from the Donda album, which peaked at No. 17 on the Hot 100. The feature further elevated his profile beyond the Cactus Jack ecosystem and into the broader mainstream conversation. Toliver supported the album with the Life of a Don Tour in 2021, his first headlining tour, which brought his atmospheric sound to packed venues across North America.
LOVE SICK (2023)
On February 24, 2023, Toliver released his third studio album, Love Sick. The project explored more emotional and romantic territory, with darker, moodier production and vulnerable songwriting. It debuted at No. 8 on the Billboard 200. Singles included “4 Me” featuring Kali Uchis and “Leave the Club” featuring Lil Durk and GloRilla. A deluxe edition followed on February 28, adding four tracks, including the Travis Scott collaboration “Embarrassed” and “No Pole,” which went viral on TikTok and became one of the album’s defining moments. Toliver continued to prove that his music had an organic connection with the platform that had helped launch his career. The Love Sick Tour followed in 2023, supporting the album with shows across the U.S. and international markets. He also joined Future’s One Big Party Tour as a supporting act, expanding his mainstream reach and fanbase.
HARDSTONE PSYCHO (2024)
Toliver’s fourth studio album, Hardstone Psycho, was released on June 14, 2024, through Cactus Jack and Atlantic Records. The project marked a deliberate sonic shift—harder, more aggressive, and infused with rock-influenced production. It featured guest appearances from Travis Scott, Future, Metro Boomin, Kodak Black, Charlie Wilson, Cash Cobain, and Teezo Touchdown, with production from Metro Boomin, Cash Cobain, Zaytoven, Wheezy, and Honorable C.N.O.T.E., among others. The album was preceded by three singles: “Bandit,” which was released on February 1 and peaked at No. 38 on the Hot 100; “Deep in the Water” in March; and “Attitude” featuring Charlie Wilson and Cash Cobain in May. Toliver revealed the tracklist on June 12, 2024—his 30th birthday. A deluxe edition was released shortly after, adding features from Lil Uzi Vert and Yeat. Hardstone Psycho debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 with 76,500 first-week album-equivalent units. It also reached No. 1 on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, a first for Toliver. Critics praised the album’s production and energy while noting room for growth in the songwriting. The Psycho Tour (2024–2025) followed as Toliver’s first arena tour, delivering high-energy, visually driven performances across major arenas in North America.
JACKBOYS: THE COLLECTIVE
Outside of his solo career, Toliver is a core member of JACKBOYS, the hip-hop collective led by Travis Scott through the Cactus Jack Records imprint. The group’s self-titled compilation album, JACKBOYS, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in January 2020. Toliver contributed the standout track “Had Enough” and became one of the project’s most prominent voices. On July 13, 2025, the collective returned with JACKBOYS 2, which also debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. The sequel cemented the collective’s commercial power and Toliver’s status as a central figure within the Cactus Jack ecosystem, not merely a satellite artist but a co-architect of the label’s sound and commercial identity.
OCTANE (2026): THE NO. 1 ALBUM
Toliver’s fifth studio album, Octane, was released on January 30, 2026, through Donnway & Co and Cactus Jack under license to Atlantic Records. The project was executive-produced by Toliver himself and features guest appearances from Yeat, Rema, Travis Scott, Teezo Touchdown, and SahBabii. Production was handled by Toliver alongside past collaborators including 206Derek, Bnyx, and Honorable C.N.O.T.E., among others. The album was preceded by the lead single “Tiramisu,” released on September 5, 2025, followed by the surprise-released “ATM” on January 23, 2026. Subsequent singles included “Body,” “E85,” and “Tuition” (released as a remix with Lil Baby). Toliver performed “E85” and “Long Way to Calabasas” on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on January 26, days before the album’s release. Octane debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 162,000 album-equivalent units—Toliver’s best opening week by a significant margin. The album also topped Spotify and Apple Music charts globally, generating 43 million first-week global streams. It marked the biggest hip-hop debut of 2026 at the time of release, outpacing recent projects from Zach Bryan and A$AP Rocky. Singles “Body” and “E85” reached the top 20 of the Hot 100, peaking at No. 14 and No. 15 respectively, while “Rosary” featuring Travis Scott peaked at No. 36. Thematically, Octane draws inspiration from Toliver’s passion for car culture and rally racing. Recorded during his European tour and sessions in Carmel-by-the-Sea, Los Angeles, and Mount Wilson, the album channels themes of motion, speed, independence, and velocity into a project that critics called his most cohesive and expansive body of work to date. A remix EP with DJ Candlestick titled Choptane was released on April 3, paying homage to Houston’s chopped-and-screwed tradition.

SOUND AND ARTISTIC IDENTITY
Don Toliver’s music occupies a distinctive space at the intersection of trap, R&B, and psychedelic production. His vocals—often described as hazy, atmospheric, and Auto-Tuned in a way that enhances rather than obscures emotional texture—are the defining element of his sound. Unlike many of his contemporaries in the melodic trap space, Toliver’s approach is rooted in the Houston tradition of slowed-down, mood-driven music, filtered through the futuristic production aesthetic pioneered by his mentor Travis Scott. Across his discography, Toliver has demonstrated consistent evolution. Heaven or Hell established the baseline: hazy, nocturnal trap-R&B. Life of a Don expanded the palette into funk and psychedelia. Love Sick went darker and more introspective. Hardstone Psycho introduced rock-influenced aggression. And Octane synthesized all of these threads into what critics have called his most futuristic and expansive work, blending arena-sized anthems with intimate late-night cuts. His alter ego, Donny Womack—inspired by legendary R&B artist Bobby Womack—underscores the vintage soul influence that runs beneath even his hardest production. This duality—classic soul sensibility housed within cutting-edge trap production—is what makes Toliver’s music feel both familiar and forward-looking.
CULTURAL IMPACT AND TIKTOK CONNECTION
Few artists in modern hip-hop have as organic a relationship with TikTok as Don Toliver. The platform played a pivotal role in breaking “No Idea” in 2019, when users including Charli D’Amelio created dance videos that drove the song to viral status. The same pattern repeated with “After Party” in 2020 and “No Pole” from the Love Sick deluxe in 2023. This wasn’t engineered virality—the songs connected with the platform’s audience because of their atmospheric, loop-friendly production and immediately recognizable vocal hooks. Beyond streaming metrics, Toliver’s influence extends into fashion and automotive culture. The Octane era introduced a collaboration with Reebok and Billionaire Boys Club on the Ice Cream Board Flips sneaker, unveiled at ComplexCon in October 2025. The album’s visual identity—centered on car culture, rally racing, and cinematic nightscapes—further established Toliver as an artist whose creative vision extends well beyond the studio.
WHAT’S NEXT
As of April 2026, Don Toliver is preparing for the Octane Tour, his largest live production to date, which begins May 8 at Rolling Loud Orlando. The “Phase 1” designation for the North American leg has generated industry and fan speculation about upcoming European dates. The Choptane remix EP with DJ Candlestick, released April 3, continues the Octane album cycle. With five consecutive top-10 albums on the Billboard 200 and a No. 1 debut, Toliver has established one of the most consistent discographies in contemporary hip-hop—and at 31 years old, the trajectory shows no signs of slowing down.
