How Can’t Hold Us passed rockstar

rockstar spent most of the streaming era as the default answer to this question. Spotify’s own 2023 list of its 50 most streamed rap songs was led by the 2017 single, which also spent eight weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The gap closed because the two songs now stream at very different speeds. On the day these figures were taken, Can’t Hold Us drew about 1.53 million Spotify plays, close to three times the roughly 555,000 for rockstar. That is how a 2012 single from The Heist can climb past a 2017 chart-topper more than a decade after its release, and at that pace the lead will keep growing.

Rap On Spotify By The Numbers Four stat blocks: Can’t Hold Us is the most streamed rap song at 3.56 billion, Eminem has six songs past two billion streams, Drake has 143.1 billion career streams, and Can’t Hold Us adds 1.53 million plays a day against 555,000 for rockstar. What counts as a rap song on this list

Two of the most streamed songs by rap acts are left out on purpose. Drake’s One Dance has 4.52 billion streams and Post Malone and Swae Lee’s Sunflower has 4.52 billion, which would put both at the top. Neither is a rap record: One Dance is a dancehall and Afrobeats-leaning pop single, and Sunflower is a pop song from the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse soundtrack. Spotify’s own 2023 rap ranking, led by rockstar, did not include either one.

The same rule removes Post Malone’s Circles at 3.31 billion and SZA’s Kill Bill at 2.92 billion. Songs with a rapper on lead vocals and a rap verse at the core stay in, including All The Stars, where Kendrick Lamar shares the credit with SZA.

The most streamed rappers on Spotify

Drake dominates the artist totals the way he dominates the song charts. His 143.1 billion career streams, counting lead and featured credits, are the most of any artist on Spotify, ahead of Taylor Swift at 132.3 billion. The next rapper, Kanye West, sits at 67.3 billion, with Travis Scott and Eminem close behind.

Those totals reward volume and features as much as hits. Drake has only three songs past two billion streams as a lead artist, One Dance, God’s Plan and Passionfruit, but a catalog of hundreds of tracks and guest verses that all keep streaming.

Eminem has the most two-billion-stream rap songs

Eminem has six songs above two billion Spotify streams as a lead artist, the most of any rapper: Without Me, Lose Yourself, Mockingbird, Till I Collapse, The Real Slim Shady and Love The Way You Lie with Rihanna. Five of them were released between 2000 and 2004, years before Spotify launched.

XXXTENTACION and Kendrick Lamar follow with four each. XXXTENTACION reaches the mark with SAD!, Moonlight, Jocelyn Flores and Fuck Love, while Kendrick does it with All The Stars, HUMBLE., Money Trees and Not Like Us, released in 2024 and the newest song in that group.
