Why Miss the Rage is No. 1
Miss the Rage was written about missing the energy of live shows during the pandemic, and the title became the name fans used for the whole sound. It peaked at No. 11 on the Hot 100, Trippie Redd’s best showing, and Carti’s verse tied it directly to the Whole Lotta Red world.
Stop Breathing, Sky and Vamp Anthem come from that album and supplied the DNA everything else built on. Five years later Carti closed the loop: EVIL J0RDAN from MUSIC debuted at No. 1, the first rage record to top the Hot 100. Read more in our best Playboi Carti songs and Playboi Carti albums ranked.
The second wave: Yeat, Ken Carson and Destroy Lonely
Yeat brought church bells and private slang with Gët Busy and Sorry Bout That, both from 2021. Ken Carson turned the sound darker and faster on A Great Chaos, and its deluxe edition gave him his first Hot 100 entry with overseas in 2024. Destroy Lonely took it the other way, slower and more hypnotic, from the 2022 No Stylist tape to the Gold-certified if looks could kill. See our best Yeat songs and Ken Carson albums ranked.
