Rahkeim Calief Meyer, born February 11, 1978, records as Roc Marciano. The Long Island rapper and producer started out in Busta Rhymes' Flipmode Squad, then formed the group The U.N. before turning to solo work. His self-produced debut Marcberg in 2010 is widely credited with restarting an entire lane of rap: drumless sample loops, mafioso and pimp imagery, and dense internal rhyme delivered under the beat rather than over it, an approach that shaped Griselda and much of the modern underground. He has released 13 studio albums, producing nearly all of them himself, with exceptions including Kaos with DJ Muggs, The Elephant Man's Bones and The Skeleton Key with The Alchemist, and The Coldest Profession with DJ Premier. He is often called the godfather of the underground.
