Todd Michael Bridges, born July 13, 1989, records as Leon Bridges. Raised in Fort Worth, Texas, he was washing dishes and performing at open mics when producers from the band White Denim heard him and recorded his first sessions to tape. His 2015 debut Coming Home revived 1960s soul so closely that it was often mistaken for a reissue, and it was nominated for Best R&B Album. He then moved past the throwback framing: Good Thing drew on 1980s quiet storm and 1990s neo soul, Gold-Diggers Sound worked through 2000s R&B, and both earned Grammy nominations. "Bet Ain't Worth the Hand" won Best Traditional R&B Performance in 2019. His fourth album Leon leaned folk and country. He has also acted, playing Gil Scott-Heron in First Man.
