Jaylah Ji'mya Hickmon, born August 14, 1998, records as Doechii. Raised in Tampa, Florida, the daughter of a rapper, she grew up doing ballet, tap, gymnastics and cheerleading and planned to become a professional choral singer before releasing music independently. Her single "Yucky Blucky Fruitcake" went viral on TikTok in 2021 and led to a deal with Top Dawg Entertainment and Capitol Records the following year, making her the first woman signed to TDE's roster in that era. "What It Is (Block Boy)" with Kodak Black gave her a platinum Hot 100 entry in 2023. Her mixtape Alligator Bites Never Heal reached the Billboard 200 top ten and won Best Rap Album at the 2025 Grammys, making her the third woman to take the category, and "Anxiety" became her first Hot 100 top ten single.
