1. Rodeo (2015)

Rodeo is the only Travis Scott album that works as a single continuous piece rather than a collection of enormous moments. Released September 4, 2015 through Grand Hustle and Epic, narrated by T.I. and built around “Antidote,” “3500” and “90210,” it established the production grammar — beat switches as narrative turns, guest verses treated as textures, autotune used for atmosphere instead of melody — that every record since has borrowed from. It peaked at No. 3, his lowest chart position of the four, and remains the most complete artistic statement in the catalog.

2. Astroworld (2018)

Astroworld is the biggest of them and the closest thing to a consensus favorite. It arrived August 3, 2018, debuted at No. 1, and produced “Sicko Mode,” which went to No. 1 on the Hot 100 and became the defining rap crossover of the era. The theme-park concept gives the tracklist a real shape, and the runs from “Stargazing” through “Sicko Mode” and “Stop Trying to Be God” are unmatched anywhere else in his work. It ranks second on consistency alone — the back third drifts in a way Rodeo never does.

3. Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight (2016)

The most underrated record he has made, and his first No. 1 album. Released September 2, 2016, one year after Rodeo, it is darker, slower and far more interior — “goosebumps,” “beibs in the trap” and “through the late night” all live here. It ranks third because its mood is more consistent than its songwriting, but the Houston-specific atmosphere on it has aged better than most of what surrounded it in 2016.

4. Utopia (2023)

Utopia is the hardest one to place. Released July 28, 2023 through Cactus Jack and Epic after five years of buildup, it debuted at No. 1 and pulled off the biggest live rollout of his career, but it is also the album where the guest architecture — Beyoncé, Drake, The Weeknd, Playboi Carti, Kid Cudi, SZA — sometimes stands in for a center. “MY EYES,” “FE!N” and “HYAENA” are top-tier Travis records; the album around them is a mood board rather than a world. Fourth place here is still a strong album; that is what the catalog is like.

Where do Days Before Rodeo and the JackBoys albums fit?

Days Before Rodeo, the August 18, 2014 mixtape, would place second or third if mixtapes were eligible — it finally arrived on streaming services on August 23, 2024, a decade after release. The JackBoys compilations are label projects, not solo albums: JackBoys (December 27, 2019) and JackBoys 2 (July 13, 2025) both debuted at No. 1, the latter with 233,000 album-equivalent units, but they are Cactus Jack roster records with Travis as curator and featured artist.
